Early springtime morning memories fading, like the early misty fog above the dew, Just before the sunlight, breaks between the pine and geese careen along the glassy water line. Memories come and go, float between me and my mind. An abject apparition, no Virgil as guide. I'd have them stay awhile, or maybe see them when I'm sleeping, in my dreams. And maybe someday between the sunbeams and the long-gone starlight, I'll make it all in tune.

To Sleep 06:10
Intro: Recitation of "To Sleep" by John Keats Lyrics: A quarter past eleven on a Saturday night, riding with my parrot on a wave of light. Melatonin cruising right along, listen to the elvish owls sing a song. Memories trapped on the cranial ridge. Neuroreceptors span a bridge. Shift into fifth, push on the gas, catch what's trapped and make it last. Riding right past a funny scene, hot spilled milk made Coleridge scream, holed up, caught up, passing by, The catty-corner kitty starts to fly. Next to the unconscious spectral glare, Lacanian thoughts and the people stare. Bubbling plasma starts to boil, memories melting myelin soil. Out of sight, out of time, cruise on down, moving right along to the funky sound, Dendrites flowing like a waterfall, catching neural moonbeams in the hall. Trip is almost over at a quarter 'till five, sun on the trees makes the leaves feel alive. Conscious starts to wake and tear a seam, all across the surface of this cosmic dream.

I had a dream, that you and I walked below a midnight sky, hand in hand, by the glassy shoal, your starlight hair and eyes of coal. We walked between the willows and beams of moonlight's kiss on the trickling stream. I thought for sure that things would last, but now you float in pulsing past. Coming back to present day, my words can't tell what I want to say. It's all trapped along in the in-between, beside my thoughts within the dream. So maybe one day when it all comes back, I'll mix the thoughts into a track, and spin it 'round inside my mind, and day by day it'll fall behind.

about

This is a voyage that, simply put, explores the essence of memory. It explores the process of memory development, what we prioritize through our memory, and how memory helps us navigate through life. Starting off with a non-lyrical remembrance of an early morning before sunrise in the title track "Lavender Morning," we then transition to a short ballad that sets the stage for everything to come; language acquisition, childhood sentiments, and nature envelop us as we begin the journey. After this, we enter the non-lyrical piece "In Queue," with it's bluesy mystique and oddly timed shifts, that builds tension and portrays the process of memories being created. From here, we go to the fever dream "To Sleep," in which the narrator dreams about the process of finding memories within a chaotic "cosmic dream," only to have consciousness "tear a seam" and destroy it. "When Things Fall Apart" is all about the effects of navigating through a lost relationship and the universal theme of dealing with loss. "Blue Shift" is a non-lyrical song that recalls the title track as we now exit the album; the otherworldly sounds creepily remind us of all that we have been through and viscerally remind us of what our memories mean to us. Finally, we get to "Watch the Flowers Grow," which is a simple song with simple lyrics that attempts to leave the listener with some hope (especially during times like right now) for the future and appreciation for memory's role in our human condition. We end on a note that speaks volumes to our current situation; quarantine, pandemic, death...maybe we should take this time "to think a while / of the ones we love."
